Project Overview
The National Literacy Trust is an independent charity working to improve literacy for children, young people and adults across the UK.
Following a rebrand, the organisation needed a refreshed design across both their main website and their “Words for Life” microsite — a resource hub supporting parents with their children’s learning.
The Challenge
The website hosts a large range of resources for two main audiences:
• Parents and families
• Teachers, schools and early years professionals
The challenge was to make this content easier to navigate while creating a design that works across multiple age groups.
Our Approach
Working with the National Literacy Trust team, we refreshed the UI and UX to create a clearer and more engaging digital experience.
We used the brand’s core graphic shapes — representing reading, writing, speaking and listening — as flexible design elements across the website.
These shapes were used to:
frame imagery
highlight key content
introduce bold blocks of colour to structure text
This approach helped create a consistent visual language while keeping the site lively and easy to navigate.
The Outcome
The refreshed design brings the National Literacy Trust’s new brand to life online while making the site easier to navigate.
Parents, teachers and professionals can now quickly access the resources they need to support literacy development.
